Why now? Is it worth the trouble?
Here is my answer best explained by a poem I wrote sometime back.
Someone wondered about the life he had With riches that many want but felt so sad Purpose of living is what he lacked Making him think why he was not glad He called his friend to share his state Made him aware to begin a debate Hoping to find answers to his plight "Go get a life" said his friend that gave him a fright
He sought the advice of a saint
"Can't help", said the holy with no taint
Answers lie within, is all that he got
What's the worth of his riches, if it can't be bought
And so he thought
If happiness is nothing but felt within
What one possesses is just a maya to begin
Started to appreciate simple joy
Finding goodness in everyone before his ego would destroy
Put aside the pride and reached out to the less fortunate
Saw the smiles and tears, with words starting to resonate
Where does he begin with years gone by
His vision enlarged making him exclaim,"Oh my".
Gave a hug and a shoulder to cry
Provided hope, to will and try
Found it easy to share and bear
People's folly that once made him despair.
Saw hunger in the poor
Reflecting his image in the mirror
A child lacking necessity when his life began
With no one to help understand that he too can
Left on his own to fulfill his longing
If only someone had tried to give him a sense of belonging.
And so he reached out to the vulnerable
To prevent the scars as he was capable
Shedding light with his helping hand
To a life that could be lost
And to a soul in search of hope
Following the footprints to the promised land.
